Cyrano
CYRANO was the second play I did at Western Springs. There were almost 35 people, most of whom I had never met. I like working on a big canvas like this. The challenges are great because the story is so well known. My job was to move the plot along while making certain that each actor had a specific character with individual actions.

Amadeus
AMADEUS deals with huge, very real subjects -- jealousy of those with more talent and the madness of genius. This was a very successful production. We told the story in a theatrical way and got to hear all that wonderful music.

Wit
WIT is my favorite kind of play. It deals with a serious subject while infusing it with the humor necessary to make the seriousness stand out. It also must be presented in a theatrical setting to weave in and out of different times and places.
Antigone
For ANTIGONE I used a representational model of a Greek theatre. The production was in a smaller intimate theatre. The challenge here was to keep the acting as big as the subject is, real and believable to an audience at the most ten feet away.
Summer and Smoke
SUMMER AND SMOKE is, of course, classic Williams. The characters seldom say what they really mean. The trick is to keep the dialogue honest while making sure the underlying emotions are boiling away just under the surface.
